My first day trip during my study abroad experience was to the small town of Possagno, Italy, which is located about an hour north of Venice. First, we stopped at the Tempio Canoviano di Possagno. This temple is situated on a hillside that has lovely views of the surrounding countryside. It is dedicated to Antonio Canova, a famous sculptor who was born in Possagno, and is just as beautiful on the inside as it is on the outside.

Our next stop was the Museo Canova, which is full of plaster sculptures that were designed by Antonio Canova. The museum is small but has many beautiful sculptures. Visitors of the museum can also see Canova’s birthplace. I would recommend visiting if you are a fan of Canova or of art in general. The museum doesn’t allow photographs, but I still remember the sculptures and how amazed I was by them.

Possagno is a great place to visit if you love art or history or if you just want to enjoy a quiet afternoon in the Italian countryside. While I’m not sure that I would visit the town again, I definitely enjoyed my time there and am glad I chose it as one of my day trips.
